Greater Influence, Inc. is an innovative nonprofit organization that aims to increase representation in healthcare. It was founded by Tino Mkorombindo, during his first year as a MD/MBA candidate at the University of Louisville. Initially, Tino created Greater Influence as a mentorship organization. However, the more students he worked with, the more he recognized a pattern amongst underrepresented minorities -- a lack of access to adequate information and resources. In light of this, Tino decided to place the organization's focus on addressing the system that is broken.
As their relationship evolved beyond mentor-mentee to close friends, Tino pitched the idea of growth to his mentor Stephen Canton, 4th year MD/MS candidate at the University of Pittsburgh. Stephen loved it! Thus far, their unbreakable bond had allowed them to navigate and excel in the tough journey of medicine. Recognizing the power of this, they developed this organization intending to recreate similar bonds among people underrepresented in medicine.
“We are forming a pipeline of amazing individuals that will make the journey easier to navigate for the people that come after us. We are stronger together and, once everybody has access to essential information and resources, the sky is the limit.”
